Artist Statement
I have been interested in photography from a very young age. I would always love to look through photo albums for hours on end, just to simply examine. Looking at my family from the past, has always been a surreal time for me. I enjoy experiencing the feeling of familiarity and closeness, yet an additional feeling of the unknown and distance.
In my practice, I choose to explore quite mundane subjects in order to tell a story. I try to create a series of photographs that relate to myself and audience. I am interested in urban and domestic photography, and the art of the informal/ candid shots. I am inspired by the works of Martin Parr and Richard Billingham for their approach to image taking and subject finding.
Recently I have been more experimental in my work. I have been working with different materials instead of lens- based media. I have been enjoying manipulating my images to create these interesting pieces of art. I am also keen on incorporating my own family archival images into my work.
